It is made by bees to feed their young-larva, it’s like a heavy dose of mega-nutrition to get the young bee off on the right foot, and is the sole food for the queen bee throughout her life. Thriving on this diet, the queen bee will live up to fifty times longer than the average worker bee and will grow 3 times larger. Each day of her extraordinary life she will lay more than 1500 eggs, ensuring the survival of the hive. Royal jelly is mostly water, then protein,  simple sugars, fatty acids 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA). Traces of minerals, antibacterial and antibiotic components, vitamin B5, B6 and C.

It is used in alternative medicine under the category apitherapy and as a dietary supplement.

Supporters claim this bee-derived supplement may fight diabetes, PMS, cholesterol, high blood pressure, inflammation and prevent hearth disease.

The potency of royal jelly is measured by the amount of 10HDA it contains. 10HDA is a fatty acid that’s unique to royal jelly and breaks down when not kept cold. The amount of 10HDA Royal Jelly is generally indicative of its potency. In nature, this fatty acid occurs at a percentage of between 1.5% and 2.2%. Fresh Royal jelly that has a 10-HDA percentage of this range is considered good to excellent quality. Any reputable producer or distributor of royal jelly should be able to provide a Certificate of Analysis from an independent laboratory to verify the content.
